Maria has been training martial arts for over 35 years; and has been a martial arts instructor for three decades. Maria is a women's self defense expert; and founder of "Rose & Thorn" self defense system. Maria currently holds the following ranks:

• Judo - 2nd Degree Black Belt
• Kokushi Karate - 3rd Degree Black Belt
• Seido Karate - 2nd Degree Black Belt
• Chinese Goju Karate - 2nd Degree Black Belt
• Goshinho Jujitsu - 3rd Degree Black Belt
• Brazilian Jujitsu - Purple Belt
